A) PUBLIC HEALTH SEMINAR – TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE TREATMENTS FOR WORKPLACE INJURIES (MANDARIN)

With the recent introduction of the Mental Capacity Act which came into effect on 1 Mar 2010, members may wish to know more details as this Act sets out a clear legislative framework to empower Singaporeans to appoint trusted persons to make decisions on their behalf in the event they lose their mental capacity due to conditions such as dementia, traumatic brain damage or stroke. It also sets out safeguards to protect some of the most vulnerable members of our society.
From feedback gathered from participants, there are requests that the same talk should also be held in Mandarin. To ensure that more Singaporeans benefit, we will be holding another session of this forum in Mandarin

Once again ISACA, INIA and SAGE will be organizing the above course. This 11th ASEAN Gerontology Course will be held at a prestigious hotel in Singapore from 26 July to 3 August 2010. Conducted by prominent lecturers from United Nations – Malta and Singapore, this 8 day Course covers various aspects on Social Gerontology, Geriatrics and Economic Impact of Ageing Population. The mode of training will be through lectures and workshops.

3) SAGE SECOND-HALF SEMINAR

Members may wish to know that SAGE is currently organizing the SAGE SECOND-HALF SEMINAR. Funded by Council for Third Age, it is targeted to equip Singaporeans with proper and realistic financial plan so that they can enjoy retirement that they deserve.

This one day seminar covers both aspects of psycho-social issues as well as financial planning. Facilitated by experienced and well known speakers in this field, participants will be shown how to set realistic goals, put plans in place and monitor its progress.

Participants will be able to understand the psycho-social issues of retirement and learn about financial considerations in retirement. Besides being able to clarify life and financial goals, participants will be shown how to deal with banks and financial advisers and pre-retirement preparation with family and employer.

SAGE Cantonese Opera Night

On Saturday, 28 November 2009, in conjunction with the Active Ageing Festival 2009, SAGE organised the Cantonese Opera Night which was held at Jalan Besar Community Club Hall.

The hall was filled with avid fans of Cantonese Opera who came with their families and friends. Some of the audience even brought their young grandchildren along!
The Cantonese Opera troupe, entertaining performance lasted 3 hours. They performed eight attention-grabbing items and received a roaring round of applause every time they end each item.
